We just got back from a week vacation in Santa Cruz and while on vacation I made an attempt to leave the big camera behind most days and just use the point and shoot in order to enjoy the family time, rather than trying to capture “good” images. Well, after a week of driving by this very cool VW bus, I decided one little mini photo session was acceptable. The kids agreed to 30 minutes with gummy bears as their reward for doing a good job, Raider included. The “bus” was located just down the street from where we were staying and on the last day of our vacation I got the courage to ask it’s owner if I could have a little mini session on his property. He was out front every day working on his motorcycles and when I approached him and asked him if I could take pictures of my kids in front of his van he quickly corrected me, “It’s a bus, love.” We proceeded to chat about how my Dad owned a VW “bus” half of my life and many of my favorite childhood memories were with that bus. He was more than happy to let us use it for our photos and I was so excited!!! The kids did a great job and there were so many cool angles I could have shot for 2 hours, but we kept it to just 30 minutes.![]()

Haylie starts kindergarten next week. I had brought along her first day of school outfit and a hat, hoping I could maybe catch a few pics of her on the beach to commemorate her big day – I’m pretty happy with the outcome of these:

The kids had Thomas tattoos all over them, which I painstakingly removed from all the photos, but I left this one on James for fun. I think this is Haylie’s “signature pose:”
